Summer 2024

Since June 1st, 40 black and white pictures of the D-Day commemorations in Normandy have been displayed at the Special Gallery of the Eisenhower Center.

These pictures were taken from the 50th anniversary in 1994 to the 75th anniversary in 2019.

Not being a journalist but a local Norman amateur photographer, therefore without the accreditation to be at the “official ceremonies”, Fabrice Bourge documented another side of these events. Influenced by the French photo-journalist Henri Cartier-Bresson (the founder of Magnum), he turned to looking at the crowd and the individuals who came and participated. This reveals perhaps what the official photographs do not, a more intimate side with each image having a backstory.
